A typical Sunday around the Bellingham American Legion is a relatively relaxed affair. The regular patrons can be found telling stories, softly laughing and reminiscing about the good old days. Around 4:00 pm the lounge becomes a bit more active as the Sunday Pool Tournament gets underway. By the evening hours tabs are paid, next week’s plans are made and the Post 7 patrons head for home. This is what a normal Sunday looks like… However the first Sunday of June 2024 was anything but normal!
The American Legion and youth baseball go way back. In 1925, just six years after the American Legion was founded, the Legion formed its own youth baseball league. The success of these two organizations cannot be overstated. As the Legion grew so did their youth baseball program. Today the American Legion and American Legion Baseball can be found in all 50 states.

On Sunday June 2nd the Albert J Hamilton American Legion Family hosted the double and triple A American Legion Post 7 Baseball  Clubs. It was quite a night. Over 125 baseball enthusiasts packed the Post in support of American Legion baseball. After the coaches introduced their players, Commander Shufelt offered words of encouragement to the assembled players and staff. Shufelt mentioned that the Post 7 team had earned a World Series title back in 1949. After these remarks, players, coaches, their families, friends and Post 7 members enjoyed a wonderful spaghetti dinner. A silent auction was also held. All of the money collected on that special night will be used to support the players and program during the upcoming season.

It’s wonderful that the Bellingham American Legion has the building to host these types of events. Commitment to community is a pillar of each and every Legion Post. On Sunday June 2nd the Albert J Hamilton American Legion Post 7 proved once again how strong our community commitment can be when we work together. Thank you so much to each and every one who helped make this event happen. Your dedication and support make the Bellingham American Legion Post a truly special place.
